Package: A standard MR package, some fine liner notes even if they leave a feeling of a kind of workout from the producers.
Elvis: One of the poorest Elvis' soundtracks does not feature Elvis in a too much depressive mood - he controls his performance and attitude. This is something that can't be said about most post-1963 soundtrack recordings.
Review: The idea of this release is very clear: it is strictly for those who prefer bad sounding acetate recordings over FTD's greatly remastered CDs. We for sure can consider ourselves as serious collectors, but it's hard to imagine us sitting and comparing this acetate recordings of (mostly) poor material with original versions. Elvis' inspiration doesn't help either: we rarely listen to this soundtracks' crap but when listening we prefer good sounding releases, something can't be said about this CD.
The master take version of Girls Girls Girls starts this CD, followed with what is very master-take sounding version of I Don't Wanna Be Tied, with only a little different drum intro, but the rest of the take is the same as original. So we assume that this is rather an acetate damage or a spliced take. Where Do You Come From is the pre-master take, very close to master and beautiful, but in poor sound and we already have it in better quality. A Boy Like Me A Girl Like You is the master take. Earth Boy is the original soundtrack recoding, as are Return To Sender, Because Of Love and Song Of Shrimp. We do not hear any evident differences in the sound of The Walls Have Ears from the Double Features CD. The medley of Dainty Little Moonbeams / Girls Girls Girls has a longer middle part, and the dubbed version of The Walls Have Ears is a two minutes long version with overdubbed "breaking, kicking, crushing, burning" which is much more evident than the music and is a doubtful addition to this poor release. Two attempts at the Chinese-sounding Earth Boy (one of them with overdubbed children voices) finish the CD with the same material (this time "unprocessed") following.
Unfortunately, there is little possibility that you will take time to sit down and compare the bad sounding acetate recordings from this release to the officially released versions. Don't bother getting this CD.
